Serving Islam Team (HK) was founded in 2003 by Br. Wael Ibrahim in Egypt. Initially the idea was to train the Egyptian youth on entertaining tourists and presenting Islam to them in a friendly manner, through different activities including distributing free books, arranging mosque tours etc.
In 2005-06, the activities were moved to the Philippines in conjunction with Billah Islam (Phil), where Br. Wael addressed students of major universities in Manila, such as the Philippine Normal University and the Polytechnic University of the Philippines, and conducted Street Da’wah for the first time.
Soon after relocating to Hong Kong, cooperating with Helpers of Islam Group (HK), he became a guest speaker at Masjid Ammar in Wanchai area. At that time, the activities were limited to weekly classes and occasional conversion ceremonies until 2009 when other brothers and sisters joined him from places as diverse as Egypt, the USA, Hong Kong, India and China, and together they have taken Serving Islam Team (HK) to a whole new level. Street Da’wah became a regular monthly exercise, our participation in the Book Fair was a breathtaking, never-before experience, advertisements were placed in various newspapers (South China Morning Post, the Standard, AM730, Apple Daily) attracting the attention of Muslims and non-Muslims alike. In addition, world-renowned scholars such as Sheikh Yusuf Estes (USA), Dr. Mohamed Salah (Egypt), Sheikh Fadel Soliman (Egypt), Dr. Bilal Philips (Canada) and Sheikh Hussain Yee (Malaysia) were invited to give lectures that have brought tremendous benefits to the community.
In 2011- 2012, the team has grown rapidly, and we hope that Allah SWT will give us the strength to serve the whole community, particularly Muslims, so long as we remain alive, insha’Allah (God willing). Ameen.
