One of the central principles of Islam is helping others. While some perceive Islam as a faith that encourages violence rather than positive contributions to society, the Qur’an and especially the hadith  highlight how helping another human being is a fundamental aspect of Islam. Muslims’ primary goal is to worship God, but this is done not only through rituals like prayer and fasting but also through treatment of other people. Allah - God Almighty says is the Quran “Help one another in acts of piety and righteousness. And do not assist each other in acts of sinfulness and transgression." [Quran: al-Maaidah:2] Moreover, the Prophet Muhammad PBUH said "Allah is helping the servant as long as the servant is helping his brother."

Looking into the above, Serving Islam Team (HK) has established its 'Projects Division' aiming to serve the entire community and to leave a positive imprint in this wonderful city that we all live in - Hong Kong. We want every Muslim & Muslimah to think and act on ways in which we can serve Hong Kong, ways in which we can help others irrespective of their race, gender or religion.

‘Go Halal’ is the first project launched under this division. For many, hearing the word 'Halal' would immediately be linked to Muslims; yes and no. Halal is an Arabic term which means lawful or permissible. The opposite of halal is 'haram', which means unlawful or forbidden. Halal and haram are general terms that apply to all facets of life. However, we will use these terms only in relation to food products, meat products, cosmetics, personal care products, pharmaceuticals, food ingredients, and food contact materials.

All foods are considered halal except the following (which are haram):

• Swine/Pork and its by-products.

• Animals improperly slaughtered or dead before slaughtering.

• Alcoholic drinks and intoxicants.

• Carnivorous animals, birds of prey and certain other animals1.

• Foods contaminated with any of the above products.

‘Go Halal’ aims to create awareness on the importance of eating healthier food & in accordance to the Islamic faith. This project will help Muslims & non-Muslims to locate the restaurants that have been certified as ‘Go Halal’ it also explains what exactly is ‘Halal’ food. In addition, it guides restaurant & grocery shop owners on how to apply so that they would become a ‘Go Halal’ certified as well. The service is offered for FREE because we believe that it is an obligation upon us to serve you.

Search for the 'Go Halal' logo if you are really searching for a trusted source. Here are few restaurants that have been already certified as 'Go Halal'
