Inspired by Sheikh Ahmad Deedat and his endless Newspaper ads in South Africa, Serving Islam Team (HK) followed this great idea and placed advertisements in one of the major newspapers in town, South China Morning Post. Since 2009 till date, an advertisement appears every Saturday on the City paper (within SCMP) on the religious notices page. Until now we have come up with 4 different themes:
- Understanding Islam – where verses and narrations of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH were placed to educate the public on certain issues discussed within the Islamic texts.
- Closer Look at Islam – some verses related directly to timely topics discussed amongst people.
- Inspired by Muhammad PBUH – very motivational set of narrations were placed to inspire Muslims and Non Muslims alike on certain teachings enforced by the Prophet of Islam.
- Clarifying misconceptions – which aims to explain briefly the misunderstood topics addressed mainly by Non Muslims like the cover of the women, terrorism, Islam being the religion of the Arabs only, are the Muslims intolerant and so on.
Aside from SCMP ads, we have also placed various ads in The Standard Newspaper; the most remembered of all is ‘Islam the religion of love’ where we used to emphasize on the importance of love in Islam and how it is expressed through the teaching of the Qur’an and the narrations of the Prophet Muhammad PBUH. In addition, we launched one of the most successful campaigns called "Free Quran" in which we offered to deliver a copy from the Quran for free by post to those who were interested to learn more about Islam; with Allah's grace we recieved over one hundred requests.
We also used the same newspaper as well as other Chinese newspapers to advertise for many of our events that took place in HK. Like the annual book fair, the visitation of renowned scholars like Sheikh Yusuf Estes, Dr. Mohamed Salah and Sheikh Fadel Soliman, and Sheikh Hussain Yee and others.
